For more than one hundred and thirty years, two counter-balanced carriages have climbed the sandstone cliff between High Town and Low Town in the medieval market town of Bridgnorth.

A working railway, undiminished by age
For a century and a third, Bridgnorth Cliff Railway has carried the people of Bridgnorth up and down the 111 ft sandstone cliffs that separate High Town from Low Town and the River Severn. It is first and foremost a working railway; its importance to the townspeople and to visitors is undiminished by age.

The railway operates every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Sunday opening is delayed until midday to allow for routine maintenance and inspection.
